Korean builders have won a total of US$60.9 billion worth of overseas construction deals so far this year as of Friday, already surpassing the target for 2010 of $60 billion.
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said Sunday that Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction’s $1.46 billion deal to build a desalination plant in Saudi Arabia signed on Friday brings the sum of overseas construction orders to over $60 billion, up 68 percent from $36.2 billion in the same period last year.
The ministry expects the total amount to exceed $70 billion by the year’s end as a host of negotiations are currently underway.
After reaching the $10 billion mark in 2005, the figure increased from $39.8 billion in 2007 to $49.1 billion last year.
