Public backs green industries to boost growth, survey says

Almost 60 per cent of the public thinks the government should invest in green industries to promote economic recovery, according to a new poll.

When asked where the government should invest to improve the economy, 57 per cent cited industries such as building wind turbines or installing loft insulation, according to a survey of more than 2,000 people conducted by pollsters Opinium for the Carbon Brief website.

Just over two thirds said climate change is a serious problem that needs to be tackled immediately, while 41 per cent believed action should be pursued alongside economic growth.
