Selangor willing to discuss water issue with Putrajaya

The Selangor government is willing to hold discussions with the federal government through Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the state’s water issue.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said this would be stated in his reply letter to Muhyiddin to be sent to the latter within two days.

“The state executive council has agreed to invite Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for discussions on the water issue,” he told reporters here Wednesday.

Khalid said the state government believed that the discussions would have a positive outcome for the state’s water industry and the people in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

“I feel the Deputy Prime Minister needs to know the issues that have to be resolved before the state government can make an offer to the concessionaires, which now have been given extensions to operate month-to-month by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN),” he said.

The federal government had written to the Parti Keadilan Rakyat-led Selangor government on the water issue, including on the taking over of the water concessionaires.

Muhyiddin, who was appointed by the Cabinet to resolve the water issue, had before this said that the letter from the federal government on the water issue had been sent out on September 19.

The letter was in response to matters raised by the Mentri Besar on the water issue, including the question of taking over the concessionaires for the restructuring of the water supply industry in Selangor.
