Shanghai commuters ditch cars for public transport

Shanghai’s residents no longer find driving more convenient than public transport, according to the city’s transport authority. The number of commuters using public transport is at 47 per cent and rising as people abandon cars to avoid traffic jams and expensive parking.

To accomodate the growing public transport use, Shanghai is expanding its 208 bus routes and 55 metro stations along 12 subway lines.
