Shiyan City invests RMB 100 billion to clean up water supply

Shiyan City of Hubei Province has announced the investment of over RMB 100 billion into cleaning its water supplies. The Danjiangkou Reservoir under the control of the city is important for keeping water supplies in the Han River clean. The city sees itself as an important area for water pollution control because eventually the water that passes through this region is located within the water diversion project, which will send water to Beijing, Tianjin, and other Northern cities.

The city’s Vice Mayor has announced the increased control of industries in the area, with the stricter regulation of industry, with some 130 heavily polluting small enterprises to be closed, 86 major polluting industries to be heavily changed, and further reduction of pollution on 50 projects in the city region. Additionally, work on 19 new sewage treatment plants has begun, with some already ready to come into operation. Investigations into the pollution levels of industries in the city area are also underway.

The overall target of the city government is to reduce emissions and pollution in a gradual, sustainable manner.
