German industrial conglomerate Siemens is set to sign a preliminary joint venture deal to build a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Russia, a source familiar with the plan told Reuters on Wednesday.
A memorandum of understanding will be signed by chief executive Peter Loescher when German Chancellor Angela Merkel visits Russia this week, the source said.
A spokesman for Siemens declined comment.
The source said Russia planned to build wind mills by this year with total output volume of 5,000 megawatts.
Siemens has already set up several other joint ventures in Russia, including one on nuclear power projects.
On Tuesday, Siemens said it had signed a deal with state-controlled Russian Railways to deliver 240 new regional trains over the next decade, its second such deal in as many months.
