Singapore will add two new subway lines and expand three existing lines by 2030, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said on Thursday.
The rail network stretch in the city state is also expected to double to 360 kilometres from the current 178 kilometers, potentially putting Singapore ahead of Hong Kong and Tokyo, and on the par with New York, local media reports said.
By then, eight in ten households will have a train station within a ten-minute walk, compared with about six in ten currently.
Lui announced the plan as he visited a local train station on Thursday. The plans came after a review of the Land Transport Master Plan.
