A partnership between the private sector and government has led to the electrification - through solar energy - of more than 5,000 rural homes in one of the remotest regions of the country.
In cooperation with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Quezon Electric Cooperative II, TeaM Energy Corp announced the electrification of 5,551 homes in the Polilio Group of Islands in Quezon province, spanning 3 municipalities and 17 barangays.
“Our joint effort with the DOE has led to the electrification - through solar power - of a total of 5,551 rural households in what can be considered one of the hardest to reach places in the country,” said Federico E. Puno, TeaM Energy president and chief executive officer.
TeaM Energy is the joint venture of Japanese firms Tokyo Electric Power Co and Marubeni Corp. The joint venture operates the Pagbilao and Sual coal plants, which it acquired from US-based Mirant Corp in 2007.
