Sun-tracking house shines in solar contest

A model home built by a Portuguese team for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 moves throughout the day to collect the maximum amount of solar energy - a feat that only uses the energy that would be required to power six light bulbs.

The Madrid competition features 19 homes built in 10 days by international teams from Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian, Egyptian and European universities. Judges test the homes over a 15-day period on energy and natural resource efficiency, design and comfort.

China will host next decathlon in 2013.
