Sunergy starts production at 150MW Turkish module plant

China Sunergy (CSun) has kicked off production at a 150MW module plant in Istanbul, as it looks to circumvent the rising tide of protectionist measures in the EU and gain a foothold in the burgeoning Middle Eastern solar market.

The Nanjing-based company says it will commission a 100MW cell line at the same location by March, and will begin shifting as much as 200MW of additional capacity from its Shanghai facilities during the first quarter, subject to “market dynamics and [the] Turkey plant’s production progress”.

Eventually CSun intends to employ more than 1,200 workers in Turkey at a manufacturing facility covering more than 22,000 sq metres.

This autumn CSun revealed that its local partner for the plants is Seul Energy Investment Corporation. In addition to establishing the factories, CSun Eurasia will invest in downstream projects across the region.
