Sydney’s riverfront homes assessed for climate risk

Homeowners and businesses with waterfront property on Sydney’s Parramatta River may lose their land to sea level rise by the end of the century, according to a new report.

The number of lots at risk of flooding each year is expected to leap from its current level of 1180 to 2270 if predictions of a 0.9-metre sea level rise due to climate change come to fruition.

Local planners said that the city needed better information to plan for development and to stop the increasing practice of developing on high-risk land.
