Australia’s Woodside Energy defends climate strategy, cites cost as a barrier to gas decarbonisation
In an interview with Eco-Business, CEO Meg O'Neill says Woodside will have to engage investors on natural gas decarbonisation and decide if doing so is "the most effective use of shareholder capital". Australia has been under fire for backing gas drilling despite its 2050 net zero goal.
The Kau Yi Chau artificial islands project, proposed to ease the territory's housing crisis, endangers marine life and is not aligned with net zero goals, say non-governmental organisations. Developers say they will avoid environmentally sensitive areas.

Trust issues, lack of verifiable credits slowing investment in Singapore’s carbon market: study
The survey of energy executives in Southeast Asia found uncertainty over the effectiveness of carbon pricing and trading in reducing emissions. Better carbon accounting and transparent regulatory frameworks need to be in place to solidify Singapore's claim to be Asia's carbon hub.
The Singaporean palm oil exporter plans to announce more details in early October. This comes after its Malaysia-based counterpart SD Guthrie got its climate goals verified by the Science Based Targets initiative in end-2023.
