Taiwan urged to develop renewable energy, green buildings

German experts urged Taiwan Tuesday to further develop renewable energy and green buildings to take advantage of the country’s strengths.

Taiwan can be “a very important player” in the green economy if it uses its good position in information and communications technology, as this is increasingly being used in renewable energy development, said Michael Schafer, a member of the Berlin House of Representatives.

Countries developing green technologies will have an advantage as the green economy market is expected to more than double by 2020, Schafer told CNA on the sidelines of a Taiwan-Germany low carbon cities forum in Taipei.
