A delegation of over 10 people from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development visited the city on Thursday. This group working on urban infrastructure initiative (UII) gave a presentation on water supply, energy efficiency and green buildings to the Surat Municipal Corporation officials.
Municipal commissioner S Aparna gave the group an insight into the functioning of the civic body. The delegation visited the SMC facilities like Katargam water works, Singapore sewerage treatment plant and Adajan TP.
The delegation is led by Caroline Twig and consists of professionals working with a number of multi-national firms who provide technology in urban infrastructure projects.
An SMC official said, “Efficient use of energy, green building constructions and harmonized planning in urban housing will have to be taken into account. The civic body will have for affordable technology providers who will help it sustain the city’s urban growth in a proper perspective.”
The group had earlier met state government officials and chief minister in January, 2011 during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit.
