Indonesia has asked Toyota to produce hybrid car in the country and the company has agreed to do it in 2014.
“The ministry of industry has asked for the car to be marketed next year but Toyota has asked for it until 2014,” industry minister M.S Hidayat said here on Tuesday.
He said Toyota however would not be the only hybrid car producer as the office has also asked Honda to present its hybrid car production plan in the country.
He said Toyota has also asked for a tax reduction for the marketing of the car in the country.
“Toyota has asked for a reduction of the luxury goods tax. The ministry would discuss the incentive request with the minister of finance,” he said.
Hidayat said the industry ministry is still looking for the right technological system that could reduce carbon emissions from cars to make cars more environmental friendly.
“What people want are energy-efficient and affordable cars. And we have advised Toyota to produce hybrid cars that people like,” he said.
In response Hidayat said Toyota would consider producing a “Multi-Purpose Vehicle” type (MPV).
“It is hoped Toyota could produce an MPV-typed car in the country and could sell it at a price of Rp250 million,” he said.
