Trung Nam to build 110-KV power line in Lam Dong

Trung Nam Power Joint Stock Company will start construction of a 110-KV power line in Lac Duong District in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong this month to transmit power from two hydropower plants to the national grid.

Trung Nam Group, the parent company of Trung Nam Power Joint Stock Co., said on Wednesday its subsidiary would join forces with Song Da 7 Hydropower Joint Stock Co. to start work on the project late this month at a cost of some VND100 billion.

The 26km power line is scheduled for completion late this year to facilitate the operation of the Yantann Sien and Krong No hydropower plants.

At the moment, Trung Nam Power Joint Stock Company is also constructing the Krong No 2 and Krong No 3 hydropower plants with combined output of 46MW, while Song Da 7 Hydropower Joint Stock Co. is the developer of the Yantann Sien hydropower plant with a generating capacity of some 20MW.

Besides Dong Nai 2, and Krong No 2 and 3 hydropower projects, Trung Nam Group is involved in some other energy projects, including Dong Cam hydropower plant in Phu Yen Province, and especially a wind-power plant in Ninh Thuan Province with a capacity of 200MW costing some US$500 million.

It is also weighing the possibility of developing some hydropower projects in Cambodia, according to the group’s announcement.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade last year approved an overall scheme for developing small and medium hydropower plants in central and southern provinces between 2009 and 2015.

Under this scheme, there will be in total 598 small and medium hydropower projects with total power output of over 4,800MW that should all be connected to the national grid by 2015.
