Vietnam wants to revise its Environmental Protection Law to make it more current and responsive to present-day problems. Vietnam Environment Agency deputy director Le Ke Son said the law, which was introduced in 1993, only touched lightly on environmental planning which led to its very poor application in local governance. He said the law should be made current to address emerging issues such as climate change, green growth and sustainable environment. Lack of proper environment planning, he said, had led to delay in energy projects like the hydro-electric power project near Cat Tien Park which was put on hold. It had been approved before the submission of an environmental impact report to authorities.
