Carbon Market Institute announces new CEO

The Board of the Carbon Market Institute has announced the appointment of Peter Castellas as chief executive officer of CMI, commencing immediately.

Prior to joining CMI, Peter headed up the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu corporate finance team that provided specialist advice in the areas of carbon advisory, sustainability and clean technology to national and international clients and government agencies.

“CMI is well positioned to take a key role in catalysing the carbon market and Peter brings to the role extensive experience having worked at the leading edge of the sustainable development agenda for over 20 years,” says CMI Chairman Leslie Hosking, announcing the appointment.

Previously, Peter led Cleantech Australasia for five years where he designed and ran successful clean technology finance and investment initiatives in Australia, India and China. He was instrumental in accelerating investment into clean technology solutions to address climate change in the Asia Pacific region. His other roles included Sustainability Advisor for the Commonwealth Bank and Fund Manager of the Sustainable Melbourne Fund.

“This year carbon market activities will gather pace and CMI will play an expanded and crucial role as the peak body for organisations actively involved in the transition to a low carbon economy,” says CMI chief executive officer Peter Castellas.

“It is a very exciting time to take on the leadership of the Carbon Market Institute as the market rapidly evolves and I am looking forward to diving into my new role,” Castellas says.
