China’s Tallest Building Pass Elevator Energy Efficiency

TÜV Rheinland issues Energy Efficiency Certification for ThyssenKrupp’s Elevator in Shanghai World Financial Centre

TÜV Rheinland Greater China recently provided energy efficiency testing for ThyssenKrupp’s passenger Elevator’s high-speed Double-Deck passenger lift (10m/s, installed in Shanghai World Financial Centre), the tallest building in China and currently the third-highest in the world. The result showed this elevator achieved the highest energy efficiency standards of VDI4707 Part 1. The certification hand-over ceremony was also held in ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s factory in Songjiang area, Shanghai. Mr. Thomas Fuhrmann, TÜV Rheinland Greater China Director of Industrial Service I Mr. Andrew Kao, Senior Manager of Elevator and Conveyor Machinery Technology from TÜV Rheinland Taiwan, and Mr. Peter Wacker, Quality Director and Richard Wei, Deputy Quality Director from ThyssenKrupp China participated in the certificate hand-over ceremony.

In achieving the certification, ThyssenKrupp has demonstrated that the elevator meets the latest standards in energy saving, and underlines their commitment to sustainable development and the environment.

Many countries are pushing to develop low-carbon economies, with environmental protection and energy saving common goals. Energy-efficient elevators not only reduce operating costs, but also lessen carbon dioxide emissions and environmental damage.

VDI 4707 Part 1 is a standard especially for elevator industry that was issued by German Engineer Association in 2009. It provides an important guideline for measurement, calculation, elevation and classification of elevator energy efficiency.

Since April of 2010, TÜV Rheinland has issued the first VDI 4707 Part 1 certificate in China. Up to now, totally 49 certificates have been issued to the different world’s leading elevator manufacturers, through which helps TÜV Rheinland accumulate rich local experience and database.

During the energy efficiency certification hand-over ceremony, Mr. Thomas Fuhrmann, Director of Industrial Service, TÜV Rheinland Greater China, remarked, “TÜV Rheinland is striving to shape a better future by ensuring a balance between man, technology, and the environment. We have 140 years of history in helping our customers mitigate risks, comply with environmental standards, improve efficiency and gain market recognition. Our experienced experts and advanced laboratories allow us to assist customers to develop and produce eco-friendly products, and realize our commitment to sustainable development of society and the environment.”
