Clean energy goals in China to bolster domestic wind power development

The naming of clean energy, especially wind power as one of its main beneficiary in China’s 12th Five-Year plan is expected to be a boon to the domestic industry for the coming years.

The Chinese government has announced its 12th Five-Year plan signaling its commitment for non-fossil energy consumption to reach 11.4 per cent in relation to the primary energy consumption and by 2020 to reach 15 per cent.

To fulfill the plan objectives, the security of energy supply and the reasonable control of total energy consumption, China is said to vigorously promote the efficient use of clean energy, and make great efforts to develop clean energy, mainly in the area of wind power.

As an important component in the clean energy mix, the wind power industry poses great potential in the next five years. Based on an analysis by the Global Wind Energy Council, China’s total wind power installed capacity is forecast to reach 13 GW by 2015, 25 GW by 2020 and exceeding 50 GW by 2030.

These targests are expected to accelerate the development of the industry and aid in addressing critical current issues like network connectivity and quality of wind power equipment.

With full government support from the National Energy Administration, the 8th Wind Power Asia is also strongly backed by 14 key domestic power producers such as the State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, China Huaneng, China Datang, China Huadian, China Guodian and China Power Investment. As a result, Wind Power Asia is the only event of its kind to showcase the both the up- and downstream of the entire energy supply chain in China.

Wind Power Asia 2010 gathered over 400 exhibitors from 22 countries spanning 25,000 square meters, including four group representations from Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Korea. The event attracted 16,000 trade buyers hailing from 44 countries.

Wind Power Asia Exhibition and Conference 2011 will be staged from June 22 – 24 at the National Convention Center in Beijing, China.
