The board of directors of the Carbon Market Institute has announced the appointment of Andrew Grant as Chairman.
Grant succeeds CMI’s founding chairman Les Hosking who retired at the annual general meeting held on 27 November 2014.
“I am delighted to take on this role at a time when CMI is proactive in facilitating business engagement in the climate change agenda and having real influence on the national domestic policy front,” said CMI chairman Andrew Grant.
“2015 will be a watershed year for climate change policy – not only internationally as we approach the Paris agreement, but a discussion remains to be had here about Australia’s targets and the mechanisms to get us there. CMI has been taking the lead on this, so it’s a very interesting time to leverage the deep expertise of our membership base and get involved.”
Most recently Grant was the CEO of CO2 Group Ltd, a position he held for 10 years. He is a previous national winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Cleantech), a Williamson Fellow and has deep experience in all aspects of state, national and international carbon markets.
Grant was a pioneer in the establishment of the carbon market in Australia with extensive experience in the development of the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Program, the Federal Government’s Greenhouse Friendly Program and Carbon Farming Initiative.
He has performed substantial advisory roles in the design of schemes and carbon abatement projects in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. Grant has established major new carbon businesses covering trading, project abatement, clean technology and consulting services. He is a Non-Executive Director of Parks Victoria and Earthwatch Australia.
“Andrew brings great depth, experience, passion and energy to the role and I very much look forward to working with him as we grow CMI from strength to strength,” said CMI chief executive officer Peter Castellas.
The board thanked Les Hosking for his contribution to CMI, especially for his wise counsel and for laying a strong foundation for the future of the Institute.
