Energy leaders to address dynamic changes in the global energy sector

Singapore – This year’s Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) will feature a line-up of esteemed speakers including several government leaders and industry captains who will be speaking at the event for the first time.

Malaysian Minister for Energy, Green Technology and Water Y.B. Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Ongkili, Queensland Government Minister for Energy and Water Supply Mark McArdle and the United States Department of State Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy Amos Hochstein will deliver their insights on the dynamic changes afoot in the global energy sector at SIEW’s annual high-level dialogue, the Singapore Energy Summit (SES). Cheniere Energy Chief Executive Officer Charif Souki, International Energy Agency (IEA) Chief Economist Dr. Fatih Biroland, State Grid Corporation of China Executive Vice President Yang Qing will also share their perspectives on the evolving energy landscape at the SES.

The SES, held on the first day of SIEW on 28 October, will set the scene for the week’s discussions by addressing evolving trends such as the potential for gas to be the global energy game changer, the impact of the continued dominance of fossil fuels in the global energy mix, how to effectively power Asia’s future energy needs, solutions to achieve low carbon development and green growth, as well as how these trends will change the global energy map.

Now in its sixth edition, SIEW has gained a reputation as Asia’s platform for global energy thought leaders to share their insights on pertinent energy issues and how Asia can secure its energy future. Other confirmed speakers at SIEW 2013 include:

Jose Maria Figueres, President of the Carbon War Room and former President of Costa Rica;

Adnan Amin, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA);

Jon Moore, Deputy Chief Executive of Bloomberg New Energy Finance;

Anthony J.Jude, Chair, Energy Committee, Asian Development Bank (ADB);

David Pumphrey, Co-Director and Senior Fellow of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS);

SIEW’s partner conferences will also return to offer fresh industry perspectives on current global energy trends. They are the Asia Future Energy Forum, Asia Smart Grid/Electromobility, Downstream Asia, Gas Asia Summit, PV Asia Pacific Expo and Conference, Singapore Electricity Roundtable, and Platt’s Annual Top 250 Global Energy Company Awards Dinner.

In addition, SIEW will feature associated events that will add to the robust energy discussions. The IEA’s Dr. Fatih Birol will present findings from the agency’s comprehensive analytical study on energy trends and prospects in ASEAN. The data will be included as a special report in the IEA’s annual World Energy Outlook series which will be released in September 2013.

In support of the US-Asia Pacific Comprehensive Energy Partnership (USACEP) announced by US President Barack Obama at the 7th East Asia Summit, SIEW will also feature a half-day Public Private Partnership (PPP) Conference on power markets and interconnectivity.  The PPP Conference will bring together public and private sector senior representatives to explore the challenges and opportunities for Asian power market integration based on examples of experiences and best practices from around the globe.

SIEW 2013 will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre from 28 October to 1 November 2013.  Registration is open at www.siew.sg , with limited registration discounts of up to S$300 available till 30 August 2013. This event is organised by the Singapore Energy Market Authority, a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade & Industry.
