Fujitsu announces that two of its Sydney Data Centres have achieved a NABERS Energy for Data Centres rating.
The Fujitsu facility in Homebush Bay was awarded a 3.5 star rating by the NABERS National Administrator in November 2014 and was followed closely by Fujitsu’s Western Sydney data centre with a 4-star rating in December 2014. This makes Fujitsu the only data centre provider in NSW to have secured a NABERS rating.
This is another first for Fujitsu in the area of data centres. The Fujitsu Data Centre in Noble Park, Victoria claimed the accolade in 2013 of being the first data centre in Australia to be certified using the NABERS data centre tools.
NABERS is a national rating system that measures energy efficiency, water usage, waste management and indoor air quality within the built environment and has recently been extened to Data Centres. NABERS ratings have been incorporated into numerous policy targets, and some assets in the commercial office building sector are required to disclose their NABERS Energy rating under Commonwealth legislation.
The data centre at Homebush Bay underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2008. The energy-saving features now used in the building include:
The Fujitsu Western Sydney data centre was commissioned in November 2011 and was purpose-built with energy efficiency as a prime consideration. In addition to the energy saving features from the Homebush facility, the Western Sydney facility also incorporates Diesel Rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply (DRUPS), indirect free cooling, a heat-reflective roof, storm-water harvesting and the extensive use of recycled materials.
Mike Foster, Chief Executive Officer of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand said “We are proud to have the first two NABERS rated data centres in NSW. The NABERS rating provides our customers with an independent validation of our application of best practices in energy efficiency of our data centres, via a comprehensive and trusted assessment. Our data centre team is constantly working on ways to improve our facilities, processes and practices across our national data centre footprint.”
