Innovation and circular economy are the future of successful business

Business leaders state that collaboration, innovation and circular economy are key concerns and priorities for business in 2015 and beyond. Given the complexity of current economies, interconnection of industries and pressing resource scarcity, trend as such is a no surprise.

The study is based on six months of research and interviews with directors of sustainability, supply chain and communications of multinational corporations, primarily headquartered in Europe and North America. Industries covered include; retail, FMCG, finance, extractives, utilities, manufacturers, and telecommunications.

On a day to day level, this transform into an active search and development of various innovative projects across value chain aimed to increase resource efficiency and find new ways to add circularity to business.

Project director Elina Yumasheva says: “We spoke to business leaders at the likes of; Bacardi Limited, The Crown Estate, Coloplast, B&Q, Standard Chartered and nearly all stated if not all of above as key drivers for 2015 and beyond.”

Some of other key issues are around winning internal buy in, effective corporate storytelling, creating a responsible culture and using social media to strengthen commercial position.

Although B2B and B2C approaches have a slightly different set of emphasis on business circularity and innovation, there is a lot of cross learning between the two.

The research is the core basis of the agenda at the 14th Annual Responsible Business Summit 2015
