RHT Rajan Menon Foundation’s inaugural GAIL Sustainability Day brings over 250 individuals and organisations to embrace sustainability

Singapore 27 June 2019 - RHT Rajan Menon Foundation (“Foundation”) held its inaugural Greening ASEAN: Initiatives & Leadership (“GAIL”) Sustainability Day at the Sentosa Golf Club to celebrate organisations which have gone above and beyond to embrace sustainable practices. The Foundation’s GAIL Sustainability Day was a full day event comprising of a charity golf tournament, Sustainability Forum and Gala Awards.

Business partners of RHTLaw Taylor Wessing and the RHT Group of Companies, including more than 250 individuals and organisations supported the event. St. James’s Place Wealth Management was the title partner and Goldbell was the gold partner of the Foundation’s GAIL Sustainability Day.

During her keynote address at the Gala Awards, Guest-of-Honour Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources & Health, commended the efforts of winning organisations which have gone above and beyond to embrace sustainable practices. A total of 14 organisations were celebrated as champions of green growth across six award categories.*

Olam International Ltd won the Sustainability Excellence Award for its outstanding efforts to revitalise communities, regenerate nature as well as redesign farming and food value chains for the benefit of all stakeholders.

The sustainability forum hosted insightful panel discussions and an interactive workshop to put a spotlight on success stories from businesses which are leading the way with their efforts to champion sustainable development. Mr Charles Chong, Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Punggol East Constituency highlighted sustainability in business during his keynote address at the forum.

More than 60 golfers teed off for a green cause at the event. The venue, Sentosa Golf Club, was specifically chosen for the inaugural event as it is part of the Building and Construction Authority’s (“BCA”) list of green event spaces and holds the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award.

Mr Tan Chong Huat, Chairman of RHT Rajan Menon Foundation, said, “We believe awareness is half the battle and hope that our GAIL Sustainability Day will help advance the sustainability agenda among the business community. As industries become more aware of the trailblazers and the positive impact that sustainable practices bring, there will be greater incentive and willpower for other organisations to jump in and pursue green growth together.”

In support of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources’ Sustainable Singapore Movement, organising partner RHT Academy adopted the Ministry’s best practice guide for organising environmentally friendly events. The organising team adopted various green practices such as paperless registration, the use of QR codes to minimise the distribution of hardcopy printouts, goodie bags with environmentally-friendly items and the re-use of lanyards and ID cases.
