SEC’s Singapore Green Label certifies 3,000th product

Ricoh (Singapore) Pte Ltd’s multi-functional colour printer is the 3,000th product to be certified under the Singapore Green Labelling Scheme (SGLS). Administered by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) since June 1999, the SGLS is the only eco-certification mark in Southeast Asia to attain this 3,000th mark.

As one of Singapore’s and the region’s most established environmental marks, the SGLS was introduced to drive environmental consciousness and responsibility by allowing consumers to choose products meeting eco-standards that are assessed to be “environmentally friendly”. Joining the scheme is voluntary and is open to local and foreign companies alike.

“The growth of the SGLS from about 600 products certified in the late 1990s to 3,000 today shows an increased consciousness among consumers and businesses towards environmental sustainability. We are proud that through the SGLS, SEC can continue to help our partners like Ricoh, contribute to a more liveable and sustainable Singapore. Today’s milestone is a testament that it is possible and makes business sense to integrate environmental conservation with commercial activities,” said Mr Edwin Seah, Executive Director of SEC.

Ricoh has over 20 products certified under the SGLS since 2005. All its products are certified under the printer/multi-functional devices category.

“Ricoh Singapore would like to congratulate SEC on this milestone achievement. Being green has always been part of the Ricoh culture and we have in recent years started to see more businesses interested in the green agenda. We are deeply honoured to be part of this journey and look forward to many more years of partnership,” said Mr Adrian Lim, Head, Managing Director’s Office, Ricoh (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Products displaying the Singapore Green Label must pass a stringent set of criteria. With a suite of 50 product categories from paint & surface coatings to office furniture and flooring, SGLS now has 3,000 unique products certified across more than 25 countries.

The SGLS is compliant to the Global Ecolabelling Network’s International Coordinated Ecolabelling System and is a member of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN). All SGLS products receive recognition by other member countries of GEN such as China, Japan and Thailand, amongst others.
