Sterling and Wilson pursuing clean energy market in MENA

Sterling and Wilson is actively pursuing new business development opportunities to tap into MENA’s USD 433 billion investment into developing a clean energy future

Doha, March 21st 2013 – Over the last couple of years, MENA countries have made leaps and bounds in alternative and renewable energy development.

KA-CARE introduced an online bidding portal for companies to submit their candidacy for tenders while also announcing an increase in their national energy target from 41 GW to 54 GW. UAE hailed the launch of Shams 1, the world’s largest CSP project.

Qatar has also been in the news with announcements of Kahramaa’s 150 – 200 MW solar power plant.

“Alternative and renewable energy is one of Kahramaa’s strategic and main interests for providing Qatar with a sustainable power supply. Alternative and renewable energy is the main part of our new smart and intelligent grid that we are building for the future,” said His Excellency Engineer Essa Bin Hilal Al Kuwari, President of Kahramaa.

As part of the company’s continued commitment to the cause, His Excellency is also opening the 4th Annual Qatar Alternative Energy Investors Summit. The two-day platform will be held on March 24th and 25th in Doha.

The summit is also hosting over 20 international solution and service providers all seeking to break into what is now the world’s biggest growth market in clean energy.

Key among these companies is the India-based EPC giant Sterling and Wilson who are participating at the summit as the official Gold Sponsor.

Speaking on their participation, Bikesh Ogra, President – Solar, Sterling and Wilson said “initiatives like these shall serve as guiding light for governments and corporations to smartly exploit alternate energy sources and successfully utilize global experience.”

Ogra continued that with one of the best conditions in the world for solar power generation, “Qatar and the Middle East has got all the right ingredients and timing to fully exploit this natural source of energy.”

The company already has a presence in Qatar with an office comprising over 150 employees and recently announced the commissioning of a 36.3 MW solar power park in Rajasthan, India.

This ground mounted solar plant has been constructed by following world class engineering practices and uses state of the art technology. It shall create favorable impact on environment by off-setting approximately 51840 tons of CO2 every year.
