Sustain Group CEO announces roll-out of new Sustainability Diploma and scholarship programmes

Australian company, The Sustain Group, in collaboration with its education partner IIA, has today announced the roll-out of its new Certificate and Diploma’s in Sustainable Operations and Environmental Monitoring and Technology. To be delivered in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United States the Diploma’s are amongst the only tertiary grade qualifications in the market that reflect the growing demand for this type skills set from employers and individuals.

Speaking at the launch in Sydney, Australia, CEO and Executive Chairman of Sustain Group said that the development of these programmes would be instrumental when it came to the sustainable development of business and industry and they transition they need to make to a low carbon economy. Mr Tukaki also announced that they would be providing two annual scholarships for two people from developing countries to attend the intensive learning streams for the Diploma Programmes in Australia to the value of $20,000 AUD each.

“There is an obvious and growing demand for skills and knowledge around sustainability and what it means to both the bottom line of an organisation and how it plays out in strategy development and execution. Over the last 12 months we have recognised that no matter where your organisation is or what focus area it has, these skills are fundamentally necessary,” said Matthew Tukaki.

“Business and industry are also wanting a skilled workforce who understand what sustainability means in terms of the supply chain, regulation and monitoring, carbon footprints and analysis. What we are doing is responding to that demand - a demand that was there well before Governments either decided to regulate or proposed new regulation,” Mr Tukaki said.

Mr Tukaki also announced an annual scholarship programme for two people from developing countries to attend an intensive learning stream in Australia for either the Diploma in Sustainable Operations or the Diploma in Environmental Monitoring and Technology:

“We often forget that those who are on the ground in developing countries need just as much practical expertise as those from larger organisations. In many cases programmes such as this can be unaffordable, so today I am happy to announce that we have developed two scholarships specifically for people who represent civil society or non-government organisations from developing countries. This has been announced through the IISD lists today and I am very hopeful of receiving registrations from places such as the Pacific, PNG and Indonesia,” Mr Tukaki said.

Registrations of interest for the scholarship programme are open until the 21st of March and the first Certificate and Diploma programmes are scheduled from April of 2012.
