Surfacing Innovative Solutions for Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution

Surfacing Innovative Solutions for Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution

Over 8 billion kilograms of plastic enter the world’s oceans every year. Marine plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental concerns facing the world today. Asia, in particular, has been detrimental to the oceans, with 5 Asian countries – China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam – generating 60 per cent of this marine plastic waste leakage.

AVPN, together with ECCA Family trust, published the report ‘Surfacing Innovative Solutions for Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution’, a study that evaluates solutions available to reduce marine pollution in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

The insights cited in this report are based on desk-based reviews and semi-structured interviews conducted with AVPN members and a range of social purpose organisations (SPOs), including nonprofits and social enterprises.

It will:

  1. Provide desk-based landscape analysis of the current situation in these countries;
  2. Highlight the interventions applied so far;
  3. Identify challenges and opportunities for future social investment.
