Singapore sustainable living festival EarthFest returned bigger and better in 2018, attracting nearly 7,000 visitors to the event held at Marina Barrage.

The number of stalls at the festival has doubled from 60, when the event first launched in 2015, to 120 this year.

Held on 14 January, the festival featured a fair of planet-friendly foods, a farmer’s market of local businesses selling sustainable products, an eco-carnival of low-carbon games, and other opportunities such as talks and screenings – all dedicated to sustainability.

One major attraction was the compost bins, which saw many visitors separating organic waste, and cutting up their biodegradable plates and utensils. The festival used 100 per cent compostable material and banned haze-associated palm oil.

“We want to be a festival that walks the talk,” said Michael Broadhead, organiser of EarthFest Singapore.

Estimates by carbon offsetting firm Atmosfair calculated that EarthFest helped offset 10,870 kg of carbon dioxide emissions.

The festival was organised by non-profit organisation EarthFest Singapore, with the highlights video produced by freelance videographer, Lenney Leong.
