SK Innovation (formerly SK Energy) on Wednesday announced that it will supply lithium-ion batteries for electric cars to Mercedes-Benz AMG, a unit of Daimler.
The batteries will be used for the SLS AMG E-Cell, a high-performance car with gull-wing doors unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
The company will also supply lithium-ion batteries for hybrid commercial vehicles made by Mitsubishi Fuso, a Japanese subsidiary of Daimler, starting in 2012. An SK Innovation spokesperson said the agreement is expected to be a stepping stone for the company to grow in the electric vehicles batteries market.
