Chirag is Senior Manager and leads climate mitigation at WRI India. In this role he leads research work on carbon pricing, peer review of national and sub-national GHG estimates, technical content development, climate finance, trainings & capacity building, and technical review. He lends support in outreach and is the focal point for WRI India on Science based target initiative. Chirag is conferred with responsibility of mentoring the program staff on carbon market simulation and India GHG Program. He also, helps coordinate climate programs efforts to identify new opportunities, partner collaboration, leading technical content review and oversee research work.
Prior to WRI, Chirag worked with the climate change division of Deloitte and Perry Johnson Registrars Carbon Emissions Services, Inc. He worked extensively with corporate sector in India through several sustainability projects in various capacities. He is a well-known expert in GHG accounting and brings in more than 12 years of experience working on the issues of global climate change. He has worked on various projects such as climate & sustainability strategy, carbon markets projects, trading of emission reductions, development and assurance of GHG inventories, corporate sustainability reports. His other areas of works included development of audit protocols for GHG emission reductions projects under various market mechanisms. He holds a keen interest in developing tools to inventory GHG emissions from various sectors. He has developed excel based tool to help Indian corporate’s estimate Internal carbon price.
Chirag holds Master’ Degree in Chemical Engineering from Gujarat University, India. He is also, a certified management systems auditor for ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and Responsible recycling (R2).
He enjoys watching sports such as Cricket & Kabaddi and listening to music.
