Sweden’s ABB is entering into a partnership with China’s BYD Daimler New Technology Company to supply it with direct current fast charging systems for electric vehicles over the next six years.
ABB is expected to begin deliveries of wall mounted fast charging stations to be sold through BYD-Daimler’s Denza dealer network by mid-2015.
The systems will be sold to electric vehicle customers, initially by dealers in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
The Chinese government offers generous rebates to purchasers of low and zero emission vehicles, with air pollution reaching dangerous levels in its main cities.
BYD-Daimler’s electric Denza car is said to have a range of more than 250km, but the company says fast charging is essential for the vehicles to gain broad market acceptance.
