Charlton’s appointment will help pursue the management consultancy’s responsible business agenda across four key markets—Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America—and will be focused on growing the company’s portfolio of sustainability services offerings. He will be responsible for ensuring sustainability is embedded into Accenture’s client work.
The appointment marks Accenture’s ambitions to become a “leader in responsible business,” said Gianfranco Casati, chief executive officer, growth markets, Accenture.
Charlton joined Accenture in February 2020 as part of the AlphaBeta acquisition in Australia. He is the founder and chief executive officer of AlphaBeta, a strategic economic consultancy which works with private and public institutions to tackle societal challenges using data and analytics.
“Accenture has been at the forefront of the digital transformation of many of the region’s biggest companies over the last 20 years. The next great transformation is the shift to a sustainable economy, and we are well-positioned to be the transformation partner of choice for organisations on their sustainability journey,” Charlton said.
Charlton was the Senior Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Australia during the world economic crisis from 2008-10. He was also the Prime Minister’s representative at the G20 Leaders Summits and the Copenhagen Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP15). During this time, he was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Charlton holds a doctorate in economics from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
