Asian cities can benefit from Singapore river model

Asian cities suffering from increasingly polluted rivers can learn from Singapore’s example. The country then under Lee Kuan Yew successfully cleaned up the Singapore River and boosted the land value and economic activity in the area. National University of Singapore Professor Asit Biswas said Singapore has a good opportunity to export its model for the benefit of its Asian neighbors. He warns, however, that the model might not necessarily have a straightforward application in other countries. Nevertheless, Biswas said Singapore must look into exporting not just technology but also its management skills and river-cleaning expertise so the knowledge will not eventually disappear.
