China’s dumping probe of US and EU begins

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has begun its investigations into allegations that foreign suppliers of polysilicon are selling below cost in China. The probe will determine if penalties should be imposed on suppliers from the US, the EU and South Korea, and will also look into whether the US and EU are subsidising the polysilicon makers. China is the world’s largest consumer of the raw material polysilicon, which is used in making solar-energy equipment. The investigation comes amid a slump in the global solar industry due to overcapacity. Recently, the US has also imposed duties on Chinese-made solar cells.
