By 2015, China’s solar thermal power capacity is set to reach 3,000 megawatts, valued at 45 billion yuan ($7.15 billion). According to a paper released by the Social Sciences Academic Press, about 98 per cent of China’s territory records an annual average of 1,000 kilowatt-hours or above generated from solar power per square metre. It said China’s western and hinterland regions still have more solar energy resources given its terrain, altitude, and less humid weather compared to the eastern and coastal areas.
