Migration and security issues arising from climate change might strain relations in South Asian communities, according to a new report released at the Doha climate talks this week. The report, entitled Climate Change, Migration, and Conflict in South Asia, has examined climate change as it affects migration and security in India and Bangladesh. The report has identified the northern Indian province of Assam where climate vulnerability leading to migration has been shown to create tensions. Unauthorised Bangladeshi migration in Assam, the report said, may increase in the future and create more pronounced tensions. Moving forward, it said, security goals in the region should take into consideration climate change and human mobility.
