Emissions reach unprecedented levels this year

Latest findings from climate scientists show that global carbon emissions have increased this year putting the world on track to a 4 to 6 degree Celsius temperature increase. The Global Carbon Project report, which was published in the journal Nature Climate Change, estimated that despite a global recession emissions rose by 3 per cent in 2011, and 2.6 per cent in 2012. The report’s release coincided with the Doha climate talks, adding more pressure to governments to add more ambition to global emission cuts. According to the climate scientists, 2012 will end with an unprecedented global emissions of 36 billion tonnes, a 58 per cent jump from 1990 levels.
