Residents of Fukushima prefecture in Japan are struggling to fight the view that their soil remains exposed to nuclear radiation by organizing a study tour to prove that their food and environment are safe.
The study tour, called the “Never forget tour” was organized by Japan’s biggest travel agency, HIS, on March 23. As many as nine people, comprised of a family of four and five other individuals, are participating in the tour.
Tour organizer Megumi Noda said the tour was the first step of the project. The next step, she went on, was a more comprehensive tour to invite foreigners to visit Fukushima.
“Around 50 years ago Japan was heavily exposed to mercury poisoning, produced by dozens of factories during the Minamata incident. But now, the environment in that area has already been improved, “she told Fuji TV recently.
“We humans have made unexpected failures during the process of civilization but then we’ve managed to curb our mistakes and improve our lives,” she said.
