The furore over whether billionaire James Packer gets his VIP-only casino on Sydney Harbour won’t diminish the site’s deep green credentials, according to Lend Lease, developer of the $6 billion Barangaroo South project.
It has been widely believed that Mr Packer will win state government approval of his $1 billion six-star hotel and casino complex that would force a redesign of the 7.8-hectare site - the city’s largest ”brownfield” project since the Olympic Games in 2000.
Lend Lease, as it happened, had a few six-star targets of its own. Barangaroo South’s three commercial towers, which don’t include the casino, are designed to meet the Green Building Council of Australia’s 6 Star Green Star rating.
Barangaroo South certainly brims with sustainability efforts. The site will host the largest seawater-cooled chiller plant for building airconditioning in the country. A black-water treatment plant will supply workers and residents with as much as 1 million litres of recycled water a day.
