Indian wind power to grow to 89GW by 2020

India’s wind energy capacity is expected to hit 89 GW by 2020, and reach 191 GW in another 10 years. The big shift to renewables is seen to bring in $16.5 billion in annual investments and generate 179,000 jobs. It will also prevent 179 tonnes of CO2 annually from being released in the atmosphere. The Global Wind Energy Council said India’s rapid economic growth makes energy security a critical issue. At present, the GWEC said, India’s wind energy installations are already cost-competitive but that the country needs to be supported by more stable policies to achieve its potential growth.
