Indian wind sector awaits incentives and tariff payments from government

India’s Ministry for New and Renewable Energy is set to propose mechanisms to guarantee timely payment of tariffs by State Electricity Boards to wind power generators. Farooq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy, said the country’s gains in the wind sector will not be sustained if tariff payments to investors are delayed for more than one year. The Ministry will also be recommending that incentives be restored to wind investors after they were removed last April. According to the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association, they are hoping that a generation based incentive of Re 0.80 per unit be restored without any cap for 10 years.
