Industry downplays gas leak research

The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association has criticised independent researchers for releasing preliminary findings that methane emissions from a Queensland coal-seam gas field were much higher than expected. The industry critics have not yet read the research as it is still under peer-review, but an association spokesman said that the researchers from Southern Cross University had “not met the basic standards required of a scientifically rigorous approach”. The researchers said they released the preliminary findings at the request of the government.
