Japan’s solar shipments shine brighter this year

Japan’s domestic shipments of solar cells grew 80 per cent in the third quarter of the year, boosted by the government’s incentive program for clean energy. According to the Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association, shipments rose to 627 megawatts from 348 megawatts a year earlier. Import shipments also tripled to 203 megawatts but exports slipped to 153 megawatts. Solar imports have been increasing in Japan since 2009 but it was the country’s implementation of feed-in tariffs earlier this year that increased investments in renewables.
