She takes on the role of senior vice president, head of corporate sustainability at the banking group’s global headquarters in Singapore.
She joins a growing sustainability team at UOB, which appointed a chief sustainability officer for the first time last year.
“I am very thankful to UOB Group for this opportunity to contribute to not only UOB’s own sustainable growth and transition towards a climate resilient economy, but also that of the wider financial services sector and the region,” Fang said in a post on LinkedIn.
UOB raised its sustainable finance target for 2025 to $30 billion earlier this year, and also said it has achieved carbon neutrality last year for its own operations. The bank, which is Southeast Asia’s third largest, committed to stop financing coal in 2019, though it has come under fire for backing natural gas projects, including the Scarborough-Pluto LNG project in Australia.
Fang was appointed to lead Shiseido’s new Asia Pacific sustainability team in 2020, covering all markets outside of China and Japan. She was tasked to help the company make progress on targets including achieving carbon neutrality and using only sustainably-sourced palm oil by 2026.
Over her career, she has worked for Brazilian food and beverage firm BRF and the Martime Port Authority of Singapore in corporate communications and community engagement roles.
