Singapore is introducing new standards for its taxi fleets to keep up with demand during peak hours. Starting in January, taxi operaters will have to keep at least 70 per cent of their taxis on the roads during peak hours, and make sure that the same percentage covers at least 250 kilometres each day. Residents have complained that overcrowded public transport, combined with prohibitively high costs for car ownership, have made getting around the city increasingly difficult in recent years.
