The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is seeking proposals on how public bicycle-sharing can be implemented in Singapore, to complement the public transport network.

LTA said in a news release on Wednesday (July 2) that it has issued a Request for Information, and those interested can access it via the Government Electronic Business (GeBiz) platform.
Among the questions it wants answered: Will people cycle to transport nodes and the neighbourhood centres if bicycles for hire are conveniently located near their homes and at train stations? And how much should a bicycle-rental station charge for the hiring of bicycles?
“The proposed bicycle-sharing scheme will complement existing efforts under the Land Transport Master Plan 2013 to facilitate cycling and improve first-mile-last-mile connections to public transport nodes,” the LTA stated.
The master plan will see a network of over 700 kilometres of cycling paths rolled out island-wide by 2030.
LTA will introduce a bicycle-sharing pilot scheme by end 2015 in areas with completed or soon-to-be completed cycling path networks.
These include places such as the Jurong Lake District and the city centre. The industry consultation is expected to end by the fourth quarter of this year, and LTA will call a tender to launch the bicycle-sharing pilot by end-2015.
