Malaysia’s Energy Commission appoints Siti Safinah Salleh as new chief executive officer

The former CEO of government agency MyPower Corporation takes over the helm of the energy regulator from Abdul Razib Dawood, who is the new executive director of the Asean Centre for Energy.

Siti Safinah

Malaysia’s Energy Commission, or Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), has appointed Siti Safinah Salleh as its new chief executive officer, effective 19 February 2025.

Siti’s appointment to helm the statutory body, which regulates Malaysia’s electricity and piped gas supply, was confirmed by the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) and approved by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, ST said in a press statement on Wednesday.

The former chief executive of MyPower Corporation replaces Abdul Razib Dawood who served as the regulatory body’s chief for over five years – from August 2019 until January this year. MyPower is an agency established by the Malaysian government to coordinate the country’s electricity supply reforms.

Abdul left ST to assume the role of executive director at the Asean Centre for Energy (ACE) earlier this month, and the centre’s decision to appoint a Kuala Lumpur-based chief coincides with Malaysia’s leadership as Asean chair this year. ACE is an intergovernmental organisation within Asean that represents member states’ interests in the energy sector.

Abdul replaces energy professional Beni Suryadi, who has been acting executive director of ACE since last August.

Prior to her leadership role at MyPower, Siti worked in the governance, risk and compliance division of Malaysia’s Strategic Investment Fund, Khazanah Nasional. She was a board member of VCAP Asset Managers, a licensed asset management subsidiary of the state-owned investment company, ValueCAP, and has been a part of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and Telekom Malaysia Group in the early days of her career.
