McDonald’s truck fleet in the UAE has travelled over a million kilometres using recycled vegetable oil from its own outlets since it started a biofuel programme in July last year.
The company announced earlier this month that it has clocked up 1,301,012km (808,411 miles) using the converted fuel, according to Middle Eastern news website AMEinfo.
Used vegetable oil is collected from McDonald’s locations throughout the emirate, before being filtered and converted into biodiesel by Dubai-based biofuel company Neutral Fuels.
The company said all of the oil collected is turned into biofuel and by using it, the trucks cut greenhouse gas emissions by around 80 per cent compared to standard vehicles.
